The Cabbage Soup Diet: A True 7 Day Diet AND Free Diet Plan in One

A Do-it-Yourself Wonder

There’s no catch. The cabbage soup diet is both a free diet plan and a 7 day diet.

Here’s How it works: this weight loss program is a short-term solution which provides a strict eating plan for seven days. Its name is derived from the major ingredient in the soup which you can eat as much as you’d like throughout the seven day period in which the diet spans. Throughout the seven days there’s also other items such a fruits, vegetables and brown rice that can be eaten in a particular sequence (see recipe below). When considering this diet, it is suggested that you consult your physician before starting.

Day 1: Cabbage soup, plus any fruit (except bananas). Drink unsweetened tea, plain coffee (no sugar or milk), cranberry juice and water.
Day 2: Cabbage soup, plus other vegetables (raw, boiled or steamed) and avoid dry beans, peas and corn. For dinner, eat a baked potato with a limited amount of butter.
Day 3: Cabbage soup, plus other fruits and vegetables but no baked potato.
Day 4: Cabbage soup, plus up to 8 bananas and fat-free milk. What you eat this day is supposed to lessen your desire for sweets.
Day 5: Cabbage soup, plus up to 6 tomatoes and up to 450 grams of meat or fish.
Day 6: Cabbage soup, plus meat and vegetables.
Day 7: Cabbage soup, plus brown rice, pure fruit juice and vegetables.

The benefits of the cabbage soup weight los plan are numerous. Firstly, this diet can be administered and prepared in the comfort of one’s home. Secondly, it involves whole foods such as fruits, veggies and grains and brown rice. Thirdly, it’s great it you’re looking to propel yourself right into another diet plan once you’ve lost seven days worth of weight.

The drawbacks are few. Although it is not a long-term weight loss solution, it’s a healthy alternative to diet supplements and everything in between. If you look at this diet from the perspective of the 'four food groups' or the food pyramid it lacks nutritional grounding. Lastly, it can be a bit bland to eat soup day in and day out for seven days.

Recipe

• 6 large green onions
• 2 green peppers
• 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
• 3 Carrots (optional)
• 1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms (optional)
• 1 bunch of celery
• 1 head of cabbage
• 1 package Lipton Onion soup mix
• 1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
• 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
• Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.

Directions

Slice green onions, put in a pot, sauté with cooking spray. Cut the green pepper into bite-size pieces and add to pot. Take the outer layers off the cabbage, cut into bite-size pieces, add to pot. Cut bite-size pieces of carrot, and add to pot. Slice mushrooms, add to pot.
If you would like a spicy soup, add a small amount of curry or cayenne pepper now. You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings. These have all the salt and flavors you will need.
Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice), cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time -two hours often works well. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
