According to a Canadian Study entitled “Canadian Consumer Trends in Obesity and
Food Consumption” about a billion people world wide are
overweight or obese. Although it’s common place
to think that only North Americans suffer from obesity, due to changing eating
habits and decreased levels of activity, much of the Western world is now part
of this stat.
The Food and Drug Law Institute states that “cardiovascular diseases, diabetes,
arthritis, sleep and breathing disorders, depression, and cancer are some of the
diseases identified to have close associations with obesity.”
Also of note, a
1999 Statistics Canada Health Report validates that “Canadians who are obese or
overweight are more likely to have certain diseases, such as diabetes, high
blood pressure, arthritis, thyroid disorders, asthma, heart disease and back
problems.” Similarly, based on multiple studies by the American Heart
Association, they clarify “better food habits can help you reduce one of the
major risk factors for heart attack -high blood cholesterol.”
Eating healthy to guard against the
above-mentioned diseases can also be attributed to long-term
weight loss management. By being
constantly aware of your health and eating foods consistent with this awareness,
people make smarter choices on daily basis which relates to better weight
management over time.
New studies are coming out by the minute which continue to impress the
importance of a nutritious diet, therefore, isn’t it worth eating well simply
“for the health of it.”
