The Liquid Diet –Ineffective for Weight Control or as a Long-Term Weight Loss Solution
The Luster Wears Off Quickly
We’ve all heard of the liquid diet. Although liquid diets provide an initial
weight loss solution they are not associated with
healthy weight loss and long-term
viability. In addition, a diet centered on the consumption of liquids is
difficult to maintain, and does not offer the healthy amounts of roughage found in a
high fiber diet.
Many people are aware of the public weight struggles Oprah has had over the
years. The reason her ups and downs resonate with so many people is because it’s
incredibly common to win and lose at the diet game. Years ago Oprah lost
over 60 pounds in a short period of time thanks to a liquid
weight loss product she tried.
Unfortunately, as quickly as she lost the weight, she gained it back.
Why is it so easy to gain weight back quickly when stopping a liquid-only
diet? Once a person stops drinking liquid food and goes back to their
normal eating habits, the body returns to its natural state. In addition,
because it’s difficult to eat every food in liquid form, drinking foods tends to
cut-down on what and how much people consume. Thus, unless
long-term weight loss measures
are worked into our diets, the body won’t change.
Except under medical supervision and care, liquid diets are not worth it.
Although they work for the short term, they are not a
successful weight loss endeavor
because they are largely unhealthy and
extremely difficult to maintain as part of a regular lifestyle.
