Summer Diet: Pre and Mid-Summer Dieting Techniques
The concept of a summer diet is a scary thought because it usually drums-up
fears of bathing suit season and eating less. Although fears of mini portions
and a not-so-mini beach physique are valid concerns, a summertime diet doesn’t
have to be like this. In the following paragraphs we’ll discuss the
opportunities, benefits, and pillars of dieting
before, during and beyond the summer.
Dieting before the summer
The first step to pre-summer dieting is getting serious about
health, thinking positively about the results and
making realistic goals. There’s no point in engaging in a health regime if your
goals will set you up for failure. Take baby steps and make monthly goals. For
example, try losing 5 pounds in first month, 4 pounds the next and so on.
Once you have a weight loss goal,
think positively about reaching that goal. For example, don’t fall into negative
dieting, or dieting based on negative motivations like “I want to diet so I
won’t look hideous on the beach.” Motives play a huge role in dieting, so get
serious about positive reasons for dieting like “I want to diet so I can improve
my health and feel better about myself.”
Losing weight involves eating less calories. But
more importantly, dieting, or eating healthy,
is a lifestyle –-something that you need to believe in, commit to and embrace as
part of your day to day life.
With this in mind, here are some simple ways to begin a late-spring diet. First,
use a rainbow analogy to prepare your food. In other words, incorporate a
colourful palette of natural foods into each meal. The intent of this step is to
dail-up the amount of produce and reduce the amount of beige or white-coloured
items.
Once you apply the rainbow rule to every meal, ensure you’re eating lean meats,
and drinking low-fat and low-sugar beverages to allow the rainbow technique to
begin having a positive effect.
With nice weather also comes an opportunity to get outside and become active.
Even if you just walk 20 minutes a few times a week, the point is to get (and
stay) active and burn calories. Activity or ‘caloric output’ is part of
any healthy diet.
Dieting in the summer
If you’d like to begin dieting in the summer, there couldn’t be a better time
with the sumptuous array of tasty produce ready for the picking!
Starting a diet in the summer employs the same techniques listed above: setting
goals, maintaining positive motivation, applying the rainbow technique and
staying active.
Take the fear out of beach season and embrace a healthy lifestyle both this
summer and beyond –not only will you eat better but you’ll feel better too!
